Are browser-saved results a backup? Export and verify your study files first

Browser-saved results help you continue working, but they are not automatically a backup on another device or in an independent location. Before switching computers or browser profiles, or clearing site data, export the required originals and reopen the downloaded files to check them.

The learning goal

Find the right results, inspect them, download originals and verify the actual files. A preview copy, a download-start message and a recoverable backup are different states.

Local results are not an automatic cross-device drive

KitNelo’s current result library stores artifacts in a local browser database, accessible from the Saved results section reached through Tasks in the site navigation. Do not expect another computer, browser or profile to contain the same collection. Other tools retain their own processing-location explanations; a local library does not make every site operation local.

MDN describes storage and eviction boundaries, while Chrome’s deletion guidance includes IndexedDB within site data. Clearing site data is not simply removing temporary image files. Do not experiment with deletion and recovery using your only real study materials.

Search first, then inspect the whole selection

Search by filename or source tool and narrow the view with project, file type and sorting. If a result appears absent, clear filters and check the project or type before concluding that it was deleted. Follow an available reload action when loading fails rather than interpreting a blank view as proof of loss.

Selections can remain after filters change. The interface warns when selected files lie outside the current filter. Clear filters to review everything before packaging. Seeing three rows is not evidence that the download contains only three selected files; an earlier selection may still include an old draft.

Before packaging

  • Check project, type and search terms
  • Read the total selection count
  • Resolve the hidden-selection warning
  • Exclude old drafts and files outside the assignment scope

Three practice files need different checks

These are synthetic materials in an isolated test environment, not files read from a user’s library: two-pages.pdf has two pages, synthetic.png is a 120 by 80 solid-color image, and long-identifiers.csv retains identifier 001234567890123456789. They check page navigation, actual pixels and source text respectively. A single thumbnail cannot establish all three.

The current preview supports suitable raster images, PDF pages and text. Office documents and files beyond preview limits show a boundary or a download route. A truncated text preview is not the complete original when copied. Download the original and check it in an appropriate application when completeness matters.

Download independently before deciding to clear data

Download individually or package the intended selection. The current ZIP route accepts up to 1,000 files and 150 MB of input; numbered names preserve identically named results. A ZIP is a delivery container, not automatic encryption or an independent backup. Choose the storage location according to the sensitivity of the material.

Download started means the browser was asked to download. Locate the actual file in its downloads, open it independently and copy long-term material to a backup location you control. The isolated checks compare PDF and CSV original downloads byte for byte with synthetic inputs. That scope is not a guarantee for every device or arbitrary file.

Three different objects

Preview

A reading aid that can be paginated, scaled or truncated.

Original download

The bytes of the saved artifact rather than a preview copy.

Independent backup

A checked, recoverable copy outside browser site storage.

Locate the environment before clearing anything else

Confirm domain, computer, profile and project, then look for independent downloads or backups. If browser data was deleted and no other copy exists, recovery cannot be promised. Repeatedly clearing data is not a useful first response to a loading problem; preserve existing files and error information.

The Chrome PDF local-copy guide separates opening a document from downloading it. A version and checksum handoff helps confirm which copy you retained. After those checks, decide on cleanup and migration under your own material-management requirements.
