Hand off editable PPT charts and a recoverable draft

Deliver an editable PPTX when a colleague must change a chart, and save a separate JSON draft to continue in this tool. A chart screenshot cannot serve both purposes. Check the data and notes, then verify the downloaded artifacts rather than relying on the browser preview.

Key Takeaways

This walkthrough uses the new PPT template tool for fictional weekly counts of 12, 18 and 15. PPTX supports editing in presentation software; JSON resumes work here. It does not import arbitrary PPTX files, synchronize source data automatically or generate an AI interpretation.

Decide what the recipient needs to edit

For changes to headings, bar heights and speaker notes, native objects are more useful than a single image. Microsoft’s chart-data instructions describe selecting a chart and using Edit Data under Chart Design in PowerPoint; menus vary with the software version.

The PPT template tool provides sample decks whose text, chart values, notes and order can be edited before PPTX export. Its preview checks layout, not the recipient’s installed fonts or presentation application.

Define the measure before drawing the chart

This original fictional exercise is not KitNelo traffic or customer performance. Three non-overlapping weeks completed 12, 18 and 15 tasks; each task belongs to one week. The total is 45. Week 2 exceeds Week 1 by 6, a 50% increase using Week 1 as the denominator. If records overlap across weeks, that additive rule would need revisiting.

Use “Tasks completed over three weeks — teaching data” as the heading and counts as the measure. Enter 12, 18 and 15 as bar values, not 50 as the Week 2 count. The report-period and denominator guide explains how to establish what the measure means.

A note with a checkable answer

Unsupported narration

Performance kept growing rapidly throughout.

Reference note

Teaching data: 12/18/15 completed tasks in Weeks 1/2/3. Weeks do not overlap and tasks count once. Total 45. Week 2 added 6 tasks over Week 1 (50%); Week 3 fell by 3 from Week 2.

Week 3 falls, so continuous growth is unsupported. Notes retain the measure and inputs; a chart does not establish a cause.

Turn the template into a recoverable draft

Open the tool, choose the slide-content language and select a native editable template suited to reporting. Interface language and slide language are separate; switching the interface does not translate an open draft. Name the deck, select a chart slide (or set a slide’s layout to Chart), replace its heading with the teaching title and replace all chart sample values with the three supplied lines. Label other sample slides as teaching material or replace their content separately.

Expand speaker notes and add the reference explanation with its fictional-data label. Review remaining slides: retain them explicitly as samples or remove them. Check order, heading length and overflow notices. The tool allows up to 30 slides and charts with 1–8 nonnegative values; it is unsuitable for a chart requiring negative losses.

Download the editable JSON draft, then generate and download the PPTX. Drafts are not saved automatically; save before refreshing, leaving or replacing a template. The tool can reopen its JSON with content, colors and order. It currently cannot import arbitrary PPTX files or third-party templates.

Verify editability and the result of an edit

Open the PPTX in the recipient’s actual PowerPoint or compatible application. Select text, chart and notes separately to confirm they are not a flattened screenshot. Inspect the chart data for exactly 12, 18 and 15. In a separate acceptance copy, change 18 to 20 and check that the Week 2 bar responds. Discard that test copy and retain the approved values.

Reopen the downloaded JSON here and compare the deck name, three data rows, notes and order. Editing the PPTX elsewhere does not write back to the JSON, so label corresponding versions. Use the file-manifest and version checks to distinguish final artifacts from experiments.

These are acceptance instructions, not a claim that your colleague’s computer has been tested. Fonts, themes and applications may alter line wrapping. Shorten text or split a slide when it overflows instead of making it unreadably small.

Evidence for a completed handoff

  • The values sum to 45; counts and percentages are not mixed.
  • The heading labels teaching data; notes retain the measure and correct comparisons.
  • The actual PPTX has selectable text, chart and notes; the recipient’s test edit works.
  • The JSON was downloaded and restored; its version corresponds to the formal PPTX.
