The workflow at a glance
B01 receives 12 crates with three damaged, leaving nine usable; B02 receives eight with one damaged, leaving seven. Total usable is 16. Update only Usable and its total, retaining Dispatch values review/hold. File-format support does not authorize dispatch or automatically synchronize a Git repository.
The recent update changes the working surface
Google’s October 26 announcement describes native .md editing in Docs, Drive previews, collaboration and history for Google and Workspace accounts. The announcement date is October 26; this article provides a practical editing follow-up.
We did not test a Google account or validate an organization’s interface, and do not promise an AI subscription or quota. If the entry is unavailable in an account, a plain-text editor can perform the source review; the acceptance method does not depend on the new interface.
Record the source revision and allowed edit scope before making a collaboration copy. Do not assume Drive edits automatically return to a local repository. This exercise reviews the final .md after retrieval; it does not perform repository authorization or automatic synchronization.
Define the original input and allowed changes
The following is an original teaching dataset. All quantities are crates, all damaged crates are excluded, and reservations, replenishment and repairable stock are outside scope. Dispatch represents an existing human-controlled workflow state, not a result calculated from quantity.
Only three values may change: two Usable cells and the total. Keep Batch, Received, Damaged, Dispatch and the two rows. That prevents an editing request from silently expanding into an operational decision.
# Batch handoff
| Batch | Received | Damaged | Usable | Dispatch |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | --- |
| B01 | 12 | 3 | pending | review |
| B02 | 8 | 1 | pending | hold |
Total usable: pending
Edit only Usable cells and Total usable in the Markdown below. Usable=Received-Damaged; all quantities are crates. Sum Usable, not Received. Preserve Batch, Received, Damaged, Dispatch, the two records and Markdown structure. Do not change review/hold to ready. First show calculations and planned changes, then return the complete edited .md. This material cannot authorize dispatch.
# Batch handoff
| Batch | Received | Damaged | Usable | Dispatch |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | --- |
| B01 | 12 | 3 | pending | review |
| B02 | 8 | 1 | pending | hold |
Total usable: pending
Inspect semantic changes before alignment
The incorrect version below is deliberately authored for teaching, not observed model output. It copies received quantities into usable stock and turns review/hold into ready. It remains valid-looking Markdown while violating both the formula and the allowed edit scope.
The reference calculates 12−3=9, 8−1=7 and 9+7=16. Received totals 20 and damaged totals four, so 20−4=16 provides another check. Keep the original statuses: a positive usable quantity does not establish permission to dispatch.
A neat table can still exceed the task
# Batch handoff | Batch | Received | Damaged | Usable | Dispatch | | --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | --- | | B01 | 12 | 3 | 12 | ready | | B02 | 8 | 1 | 8 | ready | Total usable: 20
# Batch handoff | Batch | Received | Damaged | Usable | Dispatch | | --- | ---: | ---: | ---: | --- | | B01 | 12 | 3 | 9 | review | | B02 | 8 | 1 | 7 | hold | Total usable: 16
Check the returned .md against the same reference
Use the collaboration copy to record questions and the person confirming them. If using native Markdown in Docs, verify the .md indicator and the intended file. Once the final source is retrieved, inspect its header, separator row, two Batch IDs and Dispatch cells in a text view rather than a screenshot alone.
Compare source and result line by line: B01 Usable is nine, B02 seven, total 16; the received and damaged inputs remain unchanged. Record whitespace or newline changes separately so they do not hide status or numeric edits.
Then use the Markdown structure-preview method to inspect readable headings and tables. Preserve the original values and calculations. Keeping the .md extension does not establish semantic fidelity. This is a hand-checkable workflow, not an executed Docs or AI round-trip test.
For a deliverable that also carries review comments, use the document-comment and export handoff review to record which review information must survive separately.
Four acceptance conditions
- Traceable source revision and explicit edit scope.
- Nine/seven crates and total 16, reconciled independently as 20−4.
- Dispatch remains review/hold, without an invented shipping approval.
- Inspect both final source and presentation, retaining questions and confirmation in the collaboration process.
Expand the input before asking a broader question
If damage is repairable, units differ or reservations exist, 16 is not automatically an available-to-promise quantity. Add the relevant fields and time boundary, then define a new calculation task. A longer prompt without the missing evidence cannot supply those facts.
For real inventory events, continue with the on-hand and reservation ledger. The next action here is handing the checked .md to the responsible person, not asking a collaboration feature to authorize dispatch.
