.env Configuration Diff

Compare two ENV files free locally to find added, removed and changed variables. Review masked configuration differences; values are parsed without executing shell commands.

How to use

  1. Paste the old and new configuration.
  2. Review variable changes and parse notes. Reveal sensitive fields only when needed.
  3. Export the CSV diff. Check that secret values stay masked before sharing it.

Try an example

The old file has API_URL and API_KEY. The new file changes API_URL and adds DEBUG. The tool marks API_URL as changed and DEBUG as added; API_KEY is masked.

Limits and privacy

Supports common KEY=value and export KEY=value lines. Variable references are not expanded, commands are not executed, and complex shell syntax is not parsed. Text remains in page memory.

Common questions

Why could some lines not be parsed?

Check for KEY=value syntax. Comment lines may start with #; multi-line shell expressions are unsupported.

How are likely secrets detected?

Names containing common terms such as token, password, secret, or key are masked. Check custom sensitive fields yourself.

Free use and requirements

Use this tool for free without a KitNelo account. Processing runs in your browser; input limits, browser support and device memory still apply.

Values are parsed without running commands or expanding variables. Custom secret names still require your review.

Free online functions: steps and checks

Compare Two ENV Files for Free

Paste or load two environment configuration files to compare their parsed variable entries. Review added, removed and modified keys while remembering that the parser does not execute commands or expand variable references into their runtime values.

Find Changed Environment Variables for Free

Inspect the variable changes between two configuration versions and trace each difference to the intended deployment update. Check key spelling and literal values carefully, especially when variable expansion in your application could produce a different runtime result.

Export a Masked Configuration Diff for Free

Prepare a configuration comparison and export the masked difference report for review. Inspect custom secret names and visible values before sharing, since automatic masking rules may not recognize every credential or sensitive field used by your project.
