What changed
Apple’s mainland China announcement specifies October 16, 2026 at 20:00 Beijing time for preorders, with availability beginning October 23 and pricing from RMB15,999. A preorder date is not an individual delivery promise. Check eSIM arrangements, everyday apps and regional AI conditions before settling on a configuration.
The new milestone is preordering, not a second unveiling
Apple’s September 9 mainland China announcement introduced iPhone Duo and its sales schedule. The October 15 official update reiterated the October 16 preorder opening. This story concerns that next product milestone rather than presenting the September unveiling as something that happened today.
Read the date together with its time zone. This article uses the mainland China schedule of 20:00 Beijing time. Readers elsewhere should consult their local Apple page rather than treating a U.S. clock time as their own local opening time.
Three dates with different meanings
- September 9
Product announced
The original announcement is distinct from this preorder milestone.
- October 16, 20:00
Mainland China preorders open
Time is given in Beijing time and records the official schedule.
- October 23
Availability begins
This is not a promise that every order will arrive that day.
Keep the word “from” attached to the price
The mainland China release lists pricing from RMB15,999, with 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB configurations and star white and night sky finishes. A starting price is not the price of every capacity or an inclusive quote for accessories and services. We do not supply unverified prices for the other capacities.
Choosing capacity, finish and budget in advance reduces last-minute changes; it does not guarantee a delivery batch. A configuration appearing on a page also does not establish that we checked its live stock. Current selection and fulfillment options must be read on the chosen channel.
| Item | Verified information | What still needs checking |
|---|---|---|
| Price | From RMB15,999 | Selected capacity, accessories and services |
| Storage | 256GB / 512GB / 1TB / 2TB | Actual price for the selected capacity |
| Finish | Star white / night sky | Whether currently selectable on the channel |
| Timing | October 16 preorders; October 23 availability | The individual order’s shipping or pickup estimate |
The fold needs to solve a real task
Apple combines a 5.4-inch outer display with a 7.6-inch inner display and emphasizes split-view interactions. These are manufacturer descriptions. We have not independently tested handling, crease perception or everyday apps on a review unit, so the demonstration cannot stand in for those conclusions.
Our editorial suggestion is to identify something you repeat daily. Does reading reference material beside notes genuinely help more than switching apps? If most activity is one-handed messaging, how often would you open the larger display? A concrete task makes the value question more useful than the novelty alone.
Three tasks and corresponding checks
Reading and comparison
Inspect your PDFs, pages and text settings on a demonstration unit: readable space, zoom and information remaining in split view.
Work and communication
Check everyday app sign-in, notifications and window switching instead of assuming every third-party app matches a demonstration.
Desk viewing and capture
Consider whether supported positioning and hands-free use matter to you. Camera, endurance and thermal impressions still need appropriate testing.
Check mainland China’s eSIM and AI conditions separately
The mainland China product page describes eSIM-only cellular activation and instructs users to visit an operator’s physical service location for the necessary identity verification. Anyone expecting simply to move a physical SIM should ask their operator about the process, number and plan requirements.
The China page says the timing of Apple Intelligence there depends on approval. The October 15 English update also excludes Siri AI and other new Apple Intelligence features from China. Overseas demonstrations, supported languages and mainland availability are separate conditions; a chip name does not establish that a feature is available locally.
Apple Pencil (USB-C) support is also described as coming later this year. If a particular AI or handwriting capability is central to your upgrade, treat it as a condition to recheck rather than something necessarily included on the preorder opening day.
| Feature or operation | Official qualification | Editorial next step |
|---|---|---|
| Cellular activation | eSIM only; China page specifies in-person identity checks | Confirm operator procedures and number transfer |
| AI experience | Regional and language availability conditions apply | Check the specific feature in the intended region |
| Apple Pencil (USB-C) | Support described for later this year | Do not label it available on the opening day |
Turn the launch rush into an answerable decision
Consider an editorial scenario, not a device test: someone routinely comparing documents may prioritize window behavior, while someone upgrading chiefly for a locally unavailable AI feature needs further information. The same product can therefore lead to different reasonable decisions.
List the tasks your existing phone cannot adequately complete, then assess whether the new form addresses them. If that difference is unclear, waiting for a demonstration or independent review is a valid choice. A useful news analysis should clarify the decision rather than imply that everybody needs to upgrade.
Two more useful questions than whether to rush
“It is Apple’s first foldable, so I should replace my phone immediately.”
“I compare sources while taking notes: check my apps. My intended AI feature also needs a regional availability check.”
Prepare existing files without inventing stock or arrival claims
Organizing existing data and checking readable backup exports can begin before a preorder. If photos from the old device export as HEIC and a recipient does not support it, see our local HEIC-to-JPG workflow. Keep originals and solve compatibility on copies rather than overwrite your only photo archive.
Before sharing unboxing photos, our EXIF and GPS removal guide explains metadata checks. Those checks are separate from hiding names, addresses and order numbers visible in the frame. These are general transfer and sharing suggestions, not tested iPhone Duo export results.
We do not have verified live inventory, sellout speed or an individual delivery record. Accordingly, there are no instant-sellout, resale-premium or guaranteed first-batch claims here. Substantive follow-up news would add actual availability, definite app adaptation or reproducible independent experience rather than another countdown.
Final checks before deciding
- Confirm region, model, capacity and finish.
- Separate device, accessory and optional-service amounts.
- Ask the operator about eSIM and existing-number procedures.
- Read local feature availability rather than generalize overseas demonstrations.
- Check the particular shipping or pickup estimate.
- Keep your confirmation information and inspect visible personal details before sharing.

Common questions
Does an October 16 preorder mean receiving the phone that day?
No. Apple separates the October 16 preorder opening from October 23 availability. The individual order supplies its own shipping or pickup information.
Can China buyers assume physical SIM transfer and overseas AI features work unchanged?
No. The device uses eSIM with an in-person identity-check instruction on the China page. AI availability also depends on region and the specific feature. Verify these conditions separately.
Are there verified inventory figures or guaranteed first-batch tricks here?
No. We have not established live stock or delivery batches. Preparing selections and checking information can reduce mistakes, but cannot guarantee stock or arrival.
