Quick answer
Fix the source version, then inspect each question's conditions, every option, the correct answer and its source location. Keep items only when evidence and question format agree. Revise or remove ambiguous questions. A staged announcement does not establish that a new format is already available in your account.
Check announcement date and the actual entry point
Google's September 15 Gemini Notebook announcement describes adding or editing quiz questions and a rollout of new short-answer, multiple-select and fill-in-the-blank formats over the following weeks. This article was published October 7 and does not label that announcement a same-day release.
Check the quiz and editing controls visible in your own account and use only available functions. Different announced features have different scopes; do not apply another feature's subscription conditions to quizzes. We have not signed into your account or established universal availability across regions, organizations and devices.
Begin with one confirmed source version
Choose a short authorized passage or your own teaching material. Record its filename, version date, section and source location. Set aside obsolete drafts so the first question set does not mix conflicting rules. The reading-note source locator guide helps retain a route back to the original.
Define a narrow objective, such as recognizing submission-format rules, and list the concepts it should test. Prepare a review record with question ID, format, target concept, necessary conditions, answer evidence, correction reason and status. This is an editorial worksheet rather than a list of automatic platform features.
Inspect a small question set one item at a time
- 1Create or open a small set through an existing quiz entry. Inspect the content before sharing it.
- 2Assign a target concept to each item and check whether the stem includes the time, audience or scope that determines the answer.
- 3Answer independently, then inspect every option. A single-choice item needs one best answer under its wording; review the reason for each selection in a multiple-select item.
- 4Open the source location and verify that the explanation supports the conditions of this question, rather than merely matching a keyword.
- 5Where editing is available, revise the stem or options and review again. Otherwise record corrections in your own copy or exclude the item from formal practice.
Small, item-by-item review is an editorial recommendation, not a guaranteed learning effect or prescribed question count.
Find ambiguity using a fictional rule
A fictional teaching sheet, version v2, accepts PDF and PNG submissions. Its obsolete v1 accepts only PDF. A single-choice item asks which format can be submitted, offering A: PDF and B: PNG, while marking only A correct. Under v2, both choices fit. Even an explanation containing a genuine sentence may conflict with the question format and answer key.
Revise the stem to ask for the complete set of accepted formats under v2. Offer A: PDF only, B: PNG only, and C: PDF and PNG; the expected answer is C. Retain the version and source location and check that stem, options and key express the same rule. This is an authored example, not an observed model output.
Retain reviewed questions and return uncertainties to the source
- Evidence: locate the answer in a specific passage of the confirmed version and match its conditions to the stem.
- Format: clarify single choice, multiple selection or fill-in-the-blank expectations, including equivalent wording and multiple reasonable answers.
- Coverage: check the intended concepts instead of counting repeated paraphrases as additional coverage.
- Corrections: retain reasons for revisions so the next session does not reuse obsolete items.
- Sharing: ask a reader to review whether the wording stands alone, and confirm permission before exposing private notes.
The AI study-summary review guide helps inspect generated explanations. Successful generation and reliable questions are separate checks. No higher-score or faster-memory claim is made here, and a teacher's assessment rules still govern formal work.
Common questions
What if new short-answer or multiple-select options are missing?
Check your actual account and platform guidance. The announcement describes staged availability; elapsed time alone does not establish that every account has received a feature.
Does a source citation make a question trustworthy?
It still needs review. A citation may point to an obsolete version, omit a condition or support only part of the explanation. Also inspect whether other options are correct.
What should I do when two answers are reasonable?
Clarify the stem and format, add missing conditions, revise options or allow equivalent answers. If ambiguity remains, remove the item from formal practice and ask the teacher rather than memorizing an arbitrary key.
