Trial Claude Duet’s proactive brief with confirmed records, pending requests and repeat checks

A proactive agent may notice work before you ask. The harder question is whether a request has actually become a confirmed record. This small workshop-materials exercise supplies complete inputs and independently checkable answers so a trial can assess whether a brief supports action.

The workflow at a glance

Check preview access, then separate confirmed records, pending requests and materials with source timestamps. This specimen has a baseline shortfall of 2; it becomes 3 only if both requests are confirmed. A proactive brief must not report a conditional state as accomplished, or infer fresh complete data from silence.

Record the scope of the October 21 announcement

The original Claude Duet announcement is dated October 21, 2026. It introduces a research preview starting with a US Pro/Max waitlist, rather than universal access. Background work counts against usage limits shared with Claude.

The announcement describes background work and periodic checks of connected apps at intervals of a few hours, rather than real-time monitoring. It also describes approval before important actions such as sending. The following is an editorial trial specimen; we have not connected real accounts or run Duet.

Three prerequisites

Access state

Record whether the account actually received preview access, rather than relying on its plan name.

Material scope

Use only authorized test material and identify each source and reading time.

Deliverable scope

Accept the read-only brief and draft first; preparation is not sending or purchasing.

Supply the complete material instead of asking it to keep an eye out

All four records are fictional. Times are UTC on October 25, 2026, for an Atlas workshop on October 27. L0 is the 08:00 official list snapshot with 10 confirmed participants. M1 at 08:20 requests 2 additions, still unapproved. M2 at 08:40 requests 1 cancellation, not yet confirmed in the list. S0 at 09:00 records 8 materials packs.

The two requests do not themselves update the confirmed list. They describe a possible later state without supplying approval or an updated official record. S0 likewise establishes its own recorded stock state, not a later inventory count.

A copyable specimen task

Using only specimen records L0, M1, M2 and S0 above, prepare a materials brief for Atlas. Separate confirmed facts with their as-of times from pending requests. Calculate the baseline materials gap and the conditional gap only if both requests become confirmed. Identify what must be checked next. Draft one request for confirmation, but do not send messages, edit the list or place orders. On a later check, compare with the previous recorded state; do not treat silence as approval or fresh data.

Human reference: baseline gap 2, conditional gap 3

L0’s 10 confirmed participants and S0’s 8 packs give 10-8=2. That compares two dated records. It does not promise a live count of attendance or stock at the venue.

Only if M1’s 2 additions and M2’s 1 cancellation are both confirmed does the count become 10+2-1=11 and the gap 11-8=3. Keep the condition beside the result instead of emphasizing 11 as the final count. If only one request is confirmed, recompute that state separately.

A useful brief can say: confirmed-list snapshot 10; stock snapshot 8; baseline difference 2; requests for +2 and -1 await verification; if both take effect,11 packs are needed and 3 are missing. Next, confirm those requests with the owner and check for a newer list and inventory record.

Correct arithmetic, incorrect status

Editorial failure specimen

Write final count 11, immediately obtain 3 packs without evidence that the requests were approved.

Human reference

Separate the confirmed snapshot and conditional scenario; ask the owner for confirmation instead of turning a conditional gap into a completed order.

The main error is an unsupported state change, even though 10+2-1 is correct.

What should the second brief compare?

Suppose the owner later provides L1: the official list is 11 at 10:00, with both requests confirmed. There is still no inventory record newer than S0. The count can move from conditional to confirmed under L1, while stock remains explicitly a 09:00 snapshot.

If another check finds only the same L1 and S0, it should identify the absence of new evidence rather than inventing a newly urgent gap each cycle. Desired repeat-reminder behavior and change triggers are trial requirements to state and verify, not fixed built-in rules claimed by this article.

Label unread sources unchecked, or state that no new snapshot was inspected. That is different from no change. Since the announcement does not describe continuous real-time reading, the responsible person still needs any direct checks required near the event.

Fields to compare between checks

  • Prior source IDs, states and reading times.
  • Specific new or revised evidence in the current check.
  • Whether a conditional state actually became confirmed.
  • Whether stock has a new independent snapshot.
  • The reminder basis and items still awaiting the owner.

Accept the brief and exact draft before approving a send

Inspect the concrete draft for the event identity, confirmed count, both requests, inventory time and owner. If Atlas became another event, or a request became the official list, repair the evidence chain before expanding the connected scope. We have sent no messages, modified no event and purchased no materials.

Decide whether the result is usable

Ready for human confirmation

Facts have sources, conditions are explicit and the next step and draft can be reviewed.

Retain the existing route

Access is unavailable, a critical source is unread or state cannot be identified.

Not complete

A completion label appears without a reviewable brief, draft or state evidence.

This exercise establishes neither performance nor account availability

These are editorial inputs and reference answers, not a model benchmark, organizational deployment or response-speed test. They do not establish connector access, consumption, notification timing or output quality for an account.

Begin with a small non-private specimen and a human reference. For actual use, follow current official scope and organizational requirements. Unverified sources, requests and outputs remain unknown; proactivity does not replace the responsible person’s judgment.

Common questions

Does a Pro subscription guarantee immediate Duet access?

No. The October 21 announcement describes a US Pro/Max waitlist research preview. Verify actual access and later official updates.

Why not include both request emails directly in the final count?

The inputs explicitly mark them unapproved or awaiting confirmation. They support a conditional scenario rather than a confirmed state; approving just one produces another answer.

Does no background reminder prove that packs are sufficient?

No. Silence is not evidence of a new complete read or inventory count. Inspect source times, coverage and owner confirmation.
